Flu/Cold/Respiratory Activity Notification (FAN)
Track and project national, regional, and market-specific illness trends
IMS’s FAN program delivers the most comprehensive understanding of seasonal respiratory illness in Canada.
FAN tracks the number of people affected by cough/cold/flu symptoms and, using a proven proprietary methodology, accurately predicts duration and severity at granular levels of geography and population demographics.
FAN helps identify opportunities to increase sales, reduce out-of-stocks, and pre-plan in-season events.
National and provincial insights – FAN uses primary research combined with POS data from retail chains to monitor and report:
- Within defined age groups (12 and under, 13 and older)
- At the national level
- Within six major Canadian provinces
- Across 25 regional market areas representing more than 200 major cities.
Key symptom tracking – Symptom trends can vary considerably nationally and provincially during the same season and it is critical to understand how these dynamics impact regional customers. FAN tracks five predominant symptoms – cough, sore throat, fever, nasal congestion, and flu-like symptoms - to provide subscribers with key insights needed to refine strategies and maximize returns.
Weekly updates – FAN’s syndicated weekly reports provide advanced notice of changes in market behaviour.
Accurately predicts impact on prescription products – Direct correlation between FAN data and demand for prescription antibiotics and pain medications.
